I have had people from all over the world contact me about doing an album review. For the first time, I will be doing a review on someone from my own state (a second will be coming soon!). Idoleyes is from the city I was born in, and contacted me via social media about doing a review on his album The Ten Day Theory. I was a little hesitant at first because I do not wish to upset anyone from my home state. I knew I wouldn’t hold back from stating my opinion, and I also never want to discourage anyone from seeking out their dreams. It is always easier to be a critic of someone you know you will never meet, and there is a very good possibility I could end up meeting Idoleyes. In the end, I figured doing a review for him would be for the best. He would get an opinion from a critic who has been there and done that, and hopefully I would make a new connection by the end of the process, if not then maybe a new friend. With that being said, we will get to the review now.

1- Wreckonize feat. VanGo
I like the beat, it makes the audience want to start moving to it immediately. The chorus would be more catchy if the delivery had more emotion. Idoleyes could use some tweaking on his flow. A couple lines seemed to have a short, awkward pause randomly, as if Idoleyes got ahead of himself and needed to recapture his pace to fall with the beat. Near the end of Idoleyes’ verse, when he incorporates some multiple syllable rhymes, his flow comes more correct. VanGo’s flow on the second verse is much more on point, and pulls the listener in with a unique voice. VanGo’s flow is also smoother when he uses multiple syllable rhymes. Neither emcee had hard punchlines, mesmerizing, metaphors, or much wordplay.
2- Living My Dream remix
Idoleyes does a much better job maintaining a smooth flow in the first verse of this track, until he reaches the last few lines and the pace feels like it falls apart. The topic of the track fits the mood of the music and the chorus seems to be missing something, but still gets stuck in the heads of listeners. This is going to sound really harsh, but there should be someone else singing the bridge at the end, or maybe needs to be completely redone by Idoleyes. For me, this track was a step up from the last for Idoleyes.
3- Crazy feat. SWSHR and VanGo
Idoleyes flips some wordplay and metaphors in the first verse, much to my delight. He maintains his flow very well. The chorus is nice, except the repeated extension of the last syllable in ‘crazy’. Maybe that was the intention, to annoy to audience, and if that is the case then the mission was a success. I am a huge fan of the beat, it was able to get my head nodding within a few seconds. SWSHR says “It’s been a long time since I’ve seen my brain” as the second line in his verse, causing me to be confused and wonder when he has ever seen his brain in the first place. While wondering this, every single time I heard him say it, I was distracted from the next few lines of his verse. If he was going for comedy, then I might feel differently, but it does not seem that way. His flow is not very impressive. No punchlines, no metaphors. SWSHR basically rhymes words and doesn’t stick to a topic or anything. VanGo comes onto the track with his unique sound and well-timed flow. While his content somewhat sticks to the topic of the track, VanGo also basically rhymes words and doesn’t connect well with the punchlines he attempts on this track.
4- Rugged Lifestyle feat. VanGo
By the time the chorus, which opens up the track, is finished the first time around, I have a couple things I should say. The beat is great, has an awesome feel to it and most emcees would love to jump on this beat and lyrically destroy it. I like the chorus for the most part, it is pretty catchy. There are a few lines that had me shaking my head. “I was born from the p*ssy so you’d think I’d know not to bang them up so much when I hit the booty, though” is an example. Why would you even be worried about knowing not to bang up the p*ssy so much when you hit the booty? Honestly, I’m not just picking stuff to complain about. Whenever you put together lines that don’t make sense to the listener, it discourages them from your music. Idoleyes maintains a pretty decent flow throughout the track, but none of the lines feel very original to me. The flow on the second verse rides much better with the beat, and while the lines here are necessarily very original, the way they are put together and delivered onto the track makes a huge difference.
5- Pray I Don’t Wake feat. Chadillac Dundee
I like the feel of the beat. This track depends on heartfelt lyrics, and I feel might be the best connection with listeners that Idoleyes has had so far. While on these slower paced beats Idoleyes tends to drag out his words, on this track he does better maintaining his flow and the timing of his delivery. I can relate to what he says in his verse also, making this track hit home a little more for me. I like Chadillac’s presence on his verse. His voice comes through clear and he has a solid flow to go with it. He also includes some clever lines, like the Hannah Montana’s bush reference, which keeps his verse entertaining for me. He has the most impressive overall verse on the album so far, in my opinion. The chorus is well written and pretty catchy, I am a fan of it. Idoleyes comes back onto the track in the third verse with a little more complexity within the last verse. I would like to see more of that coming from Idoleyes on his verses. I would have to say that I would recommend this track to people, and with it being my favorite so far, I will be putting it up on the Featured list.
6- Who Am I? feat. VanGo
The first verse includes some good lines and keeps the flow going pretty smoothly, but does not really answer the question “Who Am I?” I expected to hear more about who the emcees are. When the chorus came on a second time, I was happy to hear a little more was added to it. Nice touch there. VanGo comes more correct on his verse within his content, though I feel like he could have been more lyrical with his lines. It just feels like there is a lot of rhyming lines that say stuff, but that’s it. Few metaphors, hardly any wordplay, and punchlines that are either delivered onto the track in a way that they don’t connect with the listener or the punchlines are very, very weak.
7- Real Hip Hop feat. VanGo
Another solid beat. Idoleyes definitely has some nice beats on the album. I like the chorus a lot, and really feel every line of it. The flow and delivery of the first verse is right on point here. If Idoleyes could come through with this type of sound every time he put a verse on a beat, he would notice a quick jump in the number of people in his audience almost immediately. Once again, VanGo nails it with his flow, but it sounds like he just rhymes words instead of giving us something with more substance. The first few lines from VanGo were solid, but then it fell off after that. Idoleyes had the better verse, easily.
8- Going Nowhere feat. Legacy
Idoleyes gives us more on this track that he did on this last one, which is a step up in my opinion from the previous tracks when it comes to flow, delivery, emotional intensity, substance within the content of his lines, and a solid mic presence. Not only does it sound like Idoleyes is feeling everything more between this and the last song, but displaying that makes it much easier for the audience to feel what Idoleyes is saying and keeps them entertained. I like the chorus, it is original and switches up a bit to keep the listener waiting to hear what’s next. Idoleyes continues his momentum through the second verse. Legacy destroys the third verse with an expanded vocabulary, a smooth flow with numerous multiple syllable rhymes that he switches up at will without any bumps along the way, and good content within his lines. I feel Legacy could include wordplay or something to give him a little more depth, but he has a couple punchlines that connect. I would recommend this track to people wanting to hear the album, so it will also be put up as a Featured track.
9- Sometime You Kill feat. VanGo and SWSHR
Idoleyes’ flow falls back off in this one with a couple stumbles along the way and the dragging of his words returns. I do like the chorus and the overall feel of the beat. VanGo does a great job on this track, delivering the kind of verse I would expect to hear on this track. His flow is on point and he has entertaining content within his verse that sticks to the topic. SWSHR surprised the hell out of me with his verse. Not only did he deliver a solid verse, he seemed like a completely different artist than before with his flow and lyrics being much more on point and far more entertaining.
10- Goodbye Friend feat. Cryptic Wisdom
Idoleyes keeps a solid flow through the first and second verses, giving is heartfelt lyrics throughout. I would have been more into Idoleyes’ verses if he would have been able to add some complexity instead of coming across so simple. The chorus easily sinks into your mind, and the beat carries a vibe that goes well with the lyrics. Cryptic Wisdom has a much cleaner delivery to his verse, although I feel he could have raised the bar with his lyrics also. As an overall track, though, I like this one and will include it on the Featured list.

The Write Up
Basically what it all boils down to is Idoleyes finding the niche with his flow on a more consistent basis and working on the lyrical aspect of things. Everything else is on point. The mixing and mastering of the vocals over the beats, and the beats themselves, are great. Most of the features in The Ten Day Theory are solid features. I felt this was more of a team effort between VanGo and Idoleyes than an actual solo album. That isn’t a bad thing, but when a duo come together on an album, they should be more on the same page, I think. I’ve spoken with Idoleyes personally and I know he has the drive and determination to continue making music, and he should because he has a lot of talent to tap into. My best advice at this point would be for Idoleyes to listen more in-depth to the lyrical artists of hip hop, and to study the different aspects of writing that are involved with hip hop. This is definitely not a horrible album, but I would say it is mediocre at best. I will stay updated and continue keeping an eye on Idoleyes in the future and watching for more music to drop.
