UNDERGROUND UNITED

THE ALBUM

1- Freshman

The album is kicked off with “Freshman.” It’s a good start for the album. The flow is a tad bit choppy. I liked the line, “we fucked, ok maybe I lied.” It would have been beneficial to feature a guest artist during the singing verses of the melody; the vocals are lacking and still need to be honed.

2- Haters Anthem

Is this an anthem or just a white boy trying to rap in front of his bathroom mirror? I don’t feel like this is an anthem at all. Anthems are people partying and having fun. I didn’t enjoy myself at all during this anthem.

3- How Far Will I Go

I like how the intro brings us into the track. But, this jam is confusing and all over the place. Is the emcee telling about his drug use or his definition of perfect?

4- I Am

This track ain’t gonna get no airplay with its choppiness. The beats aren’t too bad, but the flow is not great. The hook’s not terrible, it’s kind of catchy.

5- Old Me

I really dig the background sound samples. The emcee should throw in a bit more of the samples throughout the album. I thoroughly enjoyed the beats and lyrics on this track. Props on this fresh jam.

6- Otom

I’m unsure if “chasin empty dreams, followin my lead” is an accomplishment or a downfall. The artist said “bad bitches” way too many times on this one. It got annoying, made me wanna hit the next button. “Bad bitches” don’t impress me much, I guess.

7- Shook feat. A-Plus

“Shook” is well constructed. It has a good flow and a catchy hook. A-Plus is a marvelous addition to this track. I suggest that the emcee should be a bit more attentive to the timing. Otherwise, the track was exquisite.

Old Me & Shook

THE WRITE UP

I feel like this album was shoddily constructed and didn’t have much to offer. I’m unsure of the direction in which the album was going. I felt it was pretty much all over the place. It’s like the tracks were just thrown into the mix. The album has no basis for a storyline or mood set. I would have liked to see more than just 7 tracks from the artist. I’m not too impressed with this album, and most likely would not listen to it again.

There are several highlights from i.a.m. th. “Old Me” had some awesome background samples. I really dig the lyrics and the beat. “Shook” was definitely a badass track. I could see it getting some radio play. A-Plus was a remarkable choice as a guest artist, he adds a fresh change of pace.
