After jumping into the top ten of the most viewed album reviews at The Write Reviews within two weeks of having the breakdown for The Mad Hatter published, I decided to catch up with Savage Daffy of Element X to learn more about the mind behind the madness…

Warren Peace (WP)-

What’s good, everyone? On behalf of The Write Reviews, I am here with Savage Daffy, one half of the duo Element X. Savage Daffy is the founder and owner of 7Level Records, and recently released his solo album titled “The Mad Hatter”. I appreciate you joining me and taking the time to answer these questions for everyone. How about we begin by telling everyone where you are from, who the first artists to influence you in hip hop were, and what the local hip hop scene is like where you live?

Savage Daffy-

Wut up fam!! So I live in the Spokane Washington area. The local music scene has seen ups n downs over the years. I have played many, many shows in Spokane, well over 100. We’ve had many amazing shows and have great fans around here. There is a large following for guys like Tech N9ne and ICP which is great for my music, but it isn’t a music Mecca that’s for sure.. My influences include Strange Music, Psychopathic Records, Hed PE, Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, Rage Against The Machine, Ice Cube, Eminem, so on and on and on.

WP-

Being the founder and owner of 7Level Records, what can you tell us about your label and any of the other artists with 7Level Records, if there are any?

Savage Daffy-

Well I’ll tell you this.. 7LEVEL RECORDS is the best fucking label on the god damned planet!! We have naked women that are human furniture for studio chairs and we record butt naked and get ass massages in-between takes!! When you spit rap and make music as amazing as we do money and pussy just falls from the sky. LMAO.  I started my label myself about 10 years ago. I built my own recording studio, do all my own graphic design and print my t-shirts and hoodies. I started the label as a business simply to legitimately and legally sell my merchandise out of stores. These days we have a small handful of artists. There’s myself, Savage Daffy, as a solo artist. ELEMENT X, my current duo with my partner in rhyme Gen0cyd3, who was half of another 7Level duo called PROJEKT ORIJYN that no longer exists. LIVID UNDEAD, my last duo with my dude Ace Wicket which is not totally dead, just on a hiatus lol. My homie Neck Kutta who just released an album entitled RANDOM AXE OF KINDNESS, and last but not least my homie Maximus Rhyme.

WP-

Element X, as you said, is your group with Gen0cyd3. Does Element X have any albums previously released that people can find online? The rumor going around is that Element X is working on a new album. If this rumor is true, what can you tell us about this project?

Savage Daffy-

We haven’t released an album yet just a few songs here and there. We are currently working on a concept album called THE INOCULATION. Without telling too much about it, it’s about the how mainstream music industry creates mindless zombie listeners and underground music is the serum which inoculates these mindless drones and awakens them to all the wonderful sounds that don’t just come from their radio or MTV.. It’s a really great well thought out in depth concept album. We are about half way finished with recording this album and will release it in 2016. We also have about 20 songs written for 2 more albums. So keep your eyes peeled for ELEMENT X cuz we’ll be coming hard!!

WP-

Has Element X participated in any tours or performed any live shows? Is there a tour or any shows Element X has scheduled for in the near future?

Savage Daffy-

Including donkey shows…? lol,, We’ve been in a couple small tours in the North West and done a couple dozen shows in the Spokane area. Currently we’re not scheduled for any shows because we’re working in the studio but in 2016 we plan on killing it!!!

WP-

Just a few weeks ago, The Write Reviews gave “The Mad Hatter” an album breakdown. Was this the first review written on your music? Do you feel the review was fair? What were you able to gain from the review being posted, if anything, or did you feel like it was a complete waste of time and if so, for what reason(s)?

Savage Daffy-

This was indeed the most thorough, in depth, professional review done on my music. I think it was very fair. What did I gain? Just having a well thought out, professional response to my music from someone whom is unbiased was nice. So many people see us live and then become fans because our stage show is off the hook! Not bragging… Just a fact! We kill the stage and we blow other artists off that bitch. So after seeing us live people are already in love when they hear our albums. Definitely not a waste of time for me to get this review and I’m thankful for it.

WP-

Is there anything about “The Mad Hatter” you would like to tell everyone or something about the album that was not included in the review?

Savage Daffy-

I’m so proud of this album! I think it’s fuckin amazing! lol. This album has so much flavor that a person will only find by digging deep into it. You can’t just listen once and catch everything.  It’s a concept album and all the songs tie together both theme wise and most of them literally are seamless in listening. It has 2 sections. AWAKE and ASLEEP. The asleep section is a dream world based loosely off of Alice in Wonderland and THE MAD HATTER is your inner subconscious speaking to you in dream like riddles and your life is presented to you in an abstract way. The awake section is a group of songs based off of my personal life. This is real life shit, hence, awake, and these songs still follow the theme, just in a different light. Basically the theme is right and wrong, light and dark, good and evil, chaos and control, love and pain.  A listener has to physically read the song list on the album and look through the album art to completely understand the concept. Also I do all my own recording, addition production, mixing, mastering and art work. This album has no features, no additional vocals. It’s all me 100%!! As you stated in the review I transition effortlessly from hard ass grinding raps to sweet ass smooth singing and I’m very confident in my vocal range, dynamics and agility. My songs have unique structure which you rarely find in most music. Many songs on THE MAD HATTER have 2 different hooks which I usually bring together by the end of the song. I don’t just do vr. hook vr. hook vr. hook out… But I don’t stray so far away from that friendly structure that it’s distracting. Also like I said most of the songs are tied together with no pause between them. You won’t hear me spittin about standard ass typical hip hop shit in my music.. I don’t talk about money n bitches n clubs n bullshit (even tho I have all that stuff) I talk about cool abstract variations of life that anyone who is paying attention can relate to while my vocals delicately dance between hard core raps, smooth flows and beautiful harmonies. I know music. I’ve studied music. I know music theory and musical mathematics. I know how to properly layer my vocals and create chords and harmonies. I know my 3rds 5ths and octaves. And then I know how to properly record and mix my vocals. My shit sounds hella professional!! and I have inexpensive equipment! It doesn’t take millions to have a good studio.. It takes talent!! I’m certainly no master at it!! lol.. BUT!! I’m not just another fool spittin half ass rhymes off key into a bad mic. So in conclusion… My fuckin album is awesome!! In fact don’t buy it!! don’t listen to it!! It’s too fresh for your ass!! I’ma keep it all to myself and my circle!! Fuck you!! LMAO
