Interview with Alex Orion

Warren Peace (WP)-

Hello, everyone. This is Warren Peace on behalf of The Write Reviews. I’m here with Alex Orion, the emcee behind The Dark Ages, which was recently reviewed at the website. He will be answering so questions and letting us learn a little more about the man behind the microphone.

How is everything, Alex? It has become a little tradition for me to ask a series of three opening questions to kick off these interviews. Where are you from? Who were your first influences in hip hop? What is the hip hop scene like in your area?

Alex Orion (AO)-

Im from Shakopee Minnesota. My first influences were actually small names like Denace, Skipp, and React. The hip hop scene here is kinda lagging behind everywhere else. Everyone wants to be a rapper. No one’s a good rapper though.

WP-

Is The Dark Ages your first project? What previous projects have you made or been featured on?

AO-

The Dark Ages is my first official album. But i have had mixtapes before. Chronicals EP Vol 1., You dont know me LP and a few others.

WP-

Can you tell everyone about your most memorable experience as an artist?

AO-

One of my favorite memories is the first time i performed live to a big crowd. It was energetic and the anxiety running through my veins was just the high that I needed to know that I made the right choice being an artist.

WP-

When did you decide you wanted to be a hip hop artist? Is there anything in particular that pushed you to this decision?

AO-

I started rapping early 2012 and it was around the beginning of 2013 when i realized how much I love the expression of it. The look on people’s faces when they hear a dope flow with a rhymescheme is unimaginable unless youve done it. The sense of pride and self expression is mostly what made me do it. But also as a kid all the way up til now i love the english language. I love the way words work together and experimenting with it.

WP-

When it comes to creating a song, what is your favorite part of the process? Do you have a least favorite part?

AO-

My favorite part is rehearsing it before I hit the studio because I turn up to it hardcore. My least favorite part is the tedious process of perfecting it because little errors can annoy me to the point where I’ll rewrite an entire verse to fix it.

WP-

When and how did you meet AyaR? Will we be hearing more Alex Orion and AyaR tracks in the future?

AO-

He hit my old manager up asking if he wanted to pitch in some money to do a song with Jarren Benton. My manager knew that I love Funk Volume (the label Jarren Benton is signed to) so he introduced us. After the song “Idk” with Jarren Benton, AyaR and I started working closely as musicians and as homies. And yeah theres going to be a few more, but were not talking about it yet.. Shhhhh lol.

WP-

Now to touch base with the person that became the emcee. What was Alex Orion’s childhood like?

AO-

At times it was very peaceful. At times it was very violent and angry. “Idk. is talking about the times ive been kicked out and been on my own. And for the peaceful side i have a song on my new ep coming out in December called Where Ya Wanna Go that is amazing for telling my story. But mostly it was a normal childhood for an awkward kid growing up in the suburbs. I was raised in Shakopee, Minnesota.

WP-

That about sums it up this time around. Would you like to share your social media links with everyone? You have a website as well, don’t you? Any links to your music online?
